Virtual Paintout, November 2016

I have spent a lot of time over the last week browsing the website, The Virtual Paintout.  This is run by artist Bill Guffey, who every month posts a Google Map and invites participants to paint any picture they like from the area using Google Street View.  The range of countries and places chosen is vast - form Bhutan to Lithuania and New York to Venice and likewise the media used covers every type of painting.

Like all amateur artists, I sometime run out of things to paint, and I was really pleased to find this site and I was inspired to try the November Paint Out which is Tijuana in Mexico.  I travelled around the city in Street View and soon found this interesting cross-roads with a shop featuring a beautiful red colour on its fascia.  I worked hard to draw this complex scene and then tried to paint it.  My first attempt was a good practice attempt but had quite a few problems in it so I destroyed it and started again.  My second attempt was OK so I've sent it off to the website for publication with all the other participants' work.

Having completed this assignment I have a choice of doing a couple more (a maximum of three submissions are allowed) or waiting for a different location in December.  What a great idea this is - I've really enjoyed doing it.
